Do we really know how to tell the difference between a niche perfume?
Let's talk.
Many are already talking about the new (not so new) trend of niche perfumery, but do we really know what the differentiating points are between a conventional fragrance and a niche one?
Let's start at the beginning, what is a niche fragrance? The niche perfumes are fragrances created by the perfumers themselves, without a time limit imposed by big brands or cosmetic companies, thus giving unique creations made with care, dedication and the purest ingredients that can be used in perfumery.
This freedom when creating a new fragrance gives free rein to the creativity and ingenuity of the perfume artisans, who can play not only with ingredients that dictate whether a perfume will smell floral, woody, etc., but also recreate sensations such as first rains, maternal warmth, memories of the past... and even take you to the top of volcanoes or the bottom of the sea.
Is the price increase justified for these perfumes? This high price is more than justified, not only because of the time spent on them, which can take years to reach the formula so sought after by perfumers and artisans, but also because of the raw materials used. While in more conventional perfumes the materials are much more artificial and less complex, in haute perfumery they are used in the production of perfumes.use raw materials such as oils, resins and pure extracts, among others, whose price per litre or kilo can reach several thousand euros, and even, on many occasions, hundreds of thousands of euros. So much so that the world can be too small for a good perfume craftsman, as he can have materials from India to Mexico, from Spain to Tibet and from all the regions of our planet on his workbench.
To put this in context, it takes several tons of petals of this juicy flower to extract a few millilitres of pure Persian Rose oil.
But is it worth paying €200 for a bottle of perfume when there are hundreds of variants on the market for a thousandth of that money? The answer is clear, emphatically: YES.
Firstly, for the sensory experience you will feel when you smell a rose that is totally unknown to your nose. That is when you will appreciate the work that goes into making these little jewels. Secondly, because their durability (although not always) far exceeds that of a commercial perfume. And lastly, and most importantly for us, it is because of the exclusivity that wearing the work of a unique artisan gives you as a person and guarantees that you will be, you will feel and you will feel as special as the scent you are wearing.
We therefore launch a counter-question:
How long will you go without knowing what a unique, exclusive and inimitable fragrance is?
